Not long now. On Sunday, I arrive in Singapore. This time, as a visiting artist on a project. It’s a big step, I must admit. That I got selected through !Metro Arts in Brisbane. That since Melbourne in 2010, my practice has formulated and changed, and is something that never quite existed in Singapore for me before. That it is some sort of affirmation, and a measure of success for me personally, to now bring that home. And to be received at home as the artist that I am today?
That before I left Singapore in 2010, I did not dare call myself an artist. That I return now to work on a project investigating the very notion of this city that was and sorta-kinda still is home. That I return now to work on a project investigating the very possible reasons that made me leave in the first place.
There’s quite a bit to take in, I must admit. But I cannot be more grateful for this opportunity. 5 more sleeps to an air plane ride.
